Penni Domikis
-
All Scrapped Out! is a demonstration of how to make a masterpiece out of your unruly collection of scraps without pre-cutting or pre-pressing your fabrics. There is no need for pre-cut sizes. Let Penni show you how to step away from the cutting table and ironing board and just begin sewing. There is no need to purchase special rulers… you will use YOUR rulers. There is no need to cut into your stash of yardage… you will use YOUR scraps and turn them into something spectacular. Using just a few rules of experience Penni will show you how to make “free” quilts with all those leftovers others throw away.
-
Cabin in the Woods Quilters is a Woman Owned Small Business and is home of the All Scrapped Out! series and Scrap Petal Garden. We are a pattern and template company that is home to designer, teacher, lecturer Penni Domikis.

Emma Jane Powell

Arpilleras were a form of craft art resistance born during the Chilean dictatorship of the 1970-80s. Using applique tapestries closely resembling quilts, learn how impoverished women communicated human rights atrocities happening in Chile with the outside world. We will explore various arpilleras from that time period and what they represent. We will also look at arpilleras today and how this craft art is being recognized. You will even get to see and feel various arpilleras. Learn a little about history, politics, and art of South America during this very captivating lecture.
-
Continuing a family legacy of quilting for over 25 years, Emma Jane has tried it all, and she loves every (almost) step of the quilting process. A career public school teacher for many years, she jumped ship after having a baby in her 40s during the pandemic, and now teaches quilting for guilds, shows, and local quilt stores. She studied Spanish in high school and college and has traveled to numerous Spanish speaking countries. Her love of travel has influenced her appreciation for craft art.

Guicy Guice

Hi there! My name is Giuseppe Ribaudo, but I am better known as Giucy Giuce.
I grew up in Long Island, NY. First generation Sicilian-American on my dad’s side and second on my mom’s, my family lived on the bottom floor of my maternal grandparents’ house. My parents were restaurant owners and as such spent much of their time working, so my sister and I were often upstairs with my grandparents.
My grandmother is a remarkably talented and prolific seamstress. She taught me to sew in the Sicilian fashion, which is to say she would show me how to do something and I would have approximately 10 seconds to demonstrate that I had learned it perfectly before she’d abruptly pick me up and sew the seam herself. I never much cared for the finicky elements of garment making, so sewing took a backseat for a while. It wasn’t until I was in college that I discovered quilting. I began with sewing improvisational quilts before moving into modern traditional territory. I joined Instagram shortly thereafter and quickly found myself making long distance friends in the ever-growing quilting community via social media.
After bouncing around the country for about a decade, I decided to move back to New York to pursue a career in textiles. Within a few months of being in NYC I was offered a marketing position at Andover Fabrics and was promoted to multimedia manager a year later. In 2018, I refocused my energy to fabric design and released my first collection Quantum. In 2021 I released my tenth collection called Nonna, an homage to my beloved grandmother and her home where I learned to sew. My most recent release, Sleuth, is the third and final collection in a true crime series I have dubbed The Gnarls Hollow Trilogy.
In 2020 I relocated to Portland, Maine where I continue to design fabric and patterns, lecture, and teach quilting workshops.

Rachel Derstine
-
A PowerPoint lecture presentation demonstrating the idea that quilts do not need to be complex to be compelling. Rachel shares her thoughts on how to choose great fabrics and simple designs to create amazing quilts. She shows some work from artists who have inspired her and also speaks about how her background has informed her work.
-
Rachel Derstine is an award winning fiber artist living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her works are featured in invitational and juried gallery shows and fine art/craft shows throughout the country. She has had articles published in Machine Quilting Unlimited and Art Quilting Studio magazines. Her work has been purchased and installed in institutions such as Epic Corporation in Madison, WI, and the Milton Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, PA.
Having grown up in Japan, this influence is evident in her style and use of kimonos, silks, ikats, hand dyed and batik fabrics. She includes traditional techniques of quilting as well as her own contemporary methods. She does all her piecing, applique and couching on a domestic sewing machine and her quilting on a long arm quilting machine.

I started seriously quilting in the 1980’s. In 2010 my husband and I moved to Clifton Park, NY a little north of Albany. I didn’t know anybody at first, but the wife of someone my husband knew was a quilter. We became friends and she suggested that we check out the local quilt guild (QUILTS Schenectady). WOW!!! Why had I never done this before? Wonderful women with great ideas and beautiful work. I became energized and started quilting in earnest again.
In April of 2017 I retired from work, moved back to PA and devoted myself to serious quilting and sharing this passion which has given me so much joy. I hope that you will find something on this website which will inform and inspire you.
