Confessions of a Quilt Shop Owner
& Other Things Every Quilter Should Know About
the Industry Behind Our Craft
Denise Martin is the owner of Seamless Sewing Arts, a modern fabric and sewing studio she launched in 2020 with a simple goal: make quilting and sewing feel fresh, relevant, and irresistible to today’s makers. What started in a small Phoenixville shop has already doubled in size—and isn’t done yet. In fall 2026, Seamless will move (again) into an even larger space, continuing to grow right alongside its community.
In her talk, “Confessions of a Quilt Shop Owner,” Denise shares the real story behind running a modern quilt shop—the surprises, the challenges, and what’s actually happening in the fabric and retail worlds right now.
We'll explore what's what it’s like to own an independent sewing shop, why your dollars matter more than ever, and what we can all do to keep our beloved craft thriving. Come curious — and leave with a whole new appreciation for the fabric in your stash!

When you enter the property, park in the lot near the blue playground equipment, and enter through the door nearest the playground. The classroom is on the lower level and there is an elevator in the building.
Fee: $60 (payable to Calico Cutters) + kit ordered from website
As an artist, Emily turned to collage as a way to blend quilting and art. To make it easy for us, she has developed unique patterns printed in shades of gray that allows a quilter to use a lot of different fabrics in a variation of patterns and values to create a collage. Her ‘parchment piecing’ technique is not difficult -- it uses small pieces of fabric to build a fusible design that can be added to a quilt, wall hanging, table runner, and more.

Emily asks that you fuse the Steam a Seam Lite to the wrong side of the small fabric pieces in the kit (but not the larger background fabric) prior to the workshop, so everyone is prepared to jump right in to creating their collage.
